O/F Racing had one of the toughest years to date.Madera was the season opener with one of the best races I've seen. Jeff & Troy battled for 40 laps door to door. The fans went crazy at every corner. For almost 48 laps, Jeff held them off, and then the unthinkable happened. Jimmy Tartagula got under Jeff and spun him 2 laps from victory. Jeff said "It's like having the rug pulled out from under you!" It was a tough loss. We've worked hard for 7 years to take a win from Troy on his home track. Jeff took the loss like a great sportsman. Next was the Diamond cup. Jeff got a well deserved win on Friday night in front of the home town crowd.Jeff was emotional as he dedicated the win to his father-in-law who was dying of cancer. Jeff also thanked the fans for all there support. Saturday night was not what we had hoped for.Jeff was starting on the pole with a really good car, looking for a green flag when he noticed his right rear tire had gone flat. He had picked up a bolt. We tried to swap the tire out before the green flew, but it was to late. The flag was thrown and Jeff was a lap down. He drove hard, but the right rear was completely worn out. He managed to take 11th out of 21 cars.Next was Salt lake City. When Jeff went out to fire the motor, he noticed that the motor didn't have oil pressure. Earlier that week in our nut bolt check, Glen had noticed that the front motor mount bolts were loose. We couldn't figure how those bolts could have loosen up. Wayne decided to pull the oil pump and found the oil pump shaft button was rounded out. We looked all afternoon for a button, but no one claimed to have one. Ricky Otts had hit the wall earlier that day, and offered graciously to loan us the part we needed. We had missed all the practices and had to scramble to get the car back together before the last qualifier. Jeff went out with a cold motor, and un-scuffed tires, and went 2nd quick. We took a 3rd place finish. Jeff said "the car was good, but it could have been better with a little tweaking." The next 2 races were in Spokane, and Wenatchee. When we fired the motor in Spokane, Glen noticed an unusual sound in the top of the motor. After further inspection, we found a broken dog bone that holds the roller lifters in place. The roller turned sideways, and destroyed the cam. We took 2 DNF's on that trip. When we got back to Boise, Jeff and Wayne pulled the motor, and Jim Burrows timed in a new cam for us. Thanks to Jim we made it to the Meridian race just one week later. Meridian was another disappointment. We developed a miss that seemed to be intermittent. We once again were scrambling to figure out the problem. We changed the mag, coil, plugs twice, on/off switch, and recleaned the nozzles. Jeff went out to qualify and the car was still only firing on 7 cylinders at best. Jeff started 9th and finished 5th. The last race of the season was Madera. The heat race promised to be a great race. Jeff and Troy were racing door to door once again, when Jeff's motor blew. He was under full throttle going into turn 3 when it went. Some estimated he was going over 100mph at impact. Most of the front end part disappeared on impact. I got down to the car just as they were getting the fire out. The EMT's seemed confused about what to do next, so Glen and I got the hood off. At first It appeared Jeff's legs were broken, because his left foot was stuck between the brake peddle and the frame. Thank the good Lord he was alright. That's about as scared as I've been in the 7 years I have been on the team. The impact was so great that the fuel in the tank, shoved the tank out into the rear axle, bulging the entire tank.In Conclusion, this was a very trying season, but it shows the true dedication of the team. On another note, we have been working hard on rebuilding the car, and with Wayne's new innovation's, I'm sure we will be back stronger than ever. We used all the bad luck up last year, so we believe this is our year.We are all looking forward to seeing all of you in April! Please don't forget to sign the Guestbook. We would like to hear from you!
