Jeff Wins Shasta
The season got started off with Shasta raceway for O/F Racing this year. The first race of the season was at Madera April 4th. Our motor wasn't ready to make the first race. Congrats to Jim Birges on his win in Madera. Jim Birges broke his back and his ankle the day after the win, in a Moto-X race. Our thoughts and prayers go out to him for a speedy recovery. The car count for Shasta was pretty low, but the racing was awesome. Brian Warf turned in quick time, and Jeff and Troy were right behind him. There was a .022 difference between them. The trophy dash was won by Kenny White. We loosen the car up with new rubber in practice, and bolted the old tires on for the Trophy dash to save our good tires for the race. Jeff and Troy came out of turn 4, and were side by side. Jeff gassed her up to drag race Troy, and lite the tires up, walking it towards the wall. Jeff just pulled in after that. The car was too far off to be safe. We bolted the new rubber on for the Heat Race and the car was good again. The Heat race was won by Kenny White with Jeff as a close second. Kenny did a Great job in Jim Birges car. It appears Jim has found the sweet spot on the 89 car. Jeff started on the outside of Kenny White in the Main Event. It appeared Kenny's car was pushing on the starts putting Jeff high in the 2nd groove. There really wasn't a second groove, but Jeff made the best of it. Kenny and Jeff battled it out for 18 laps. Kenny had had some trouble earlier in th day with the engine catching fire when he shut it off. He had to change out two sets of wires out on the car before the main. During the main it was obvious Kenny was loosing fuel out the back of the fuel tank. Alot of fuel. Then to top it off it was bottoming out in turn 3 throwing sparks. Not a good combination. The black flag came out, and Kenny pulled in the pits. Just as it got off the track, it burst into flames. It looked a little scary for a few minutes there. The race resumed with Jeff in the lead. Troy and AJ Russell were battling it out for second place. AJ got around Troy and made a good run on Jeff. Jeff was able to pull away coming out by a couple of car lengths, but AJ closed at the ends. Once Jeff new he was back there, he stepped up the pace. Something happen to AJ's motor and it just shut down. They had been working all afternoon replacing a broken rearend. AJ thinks they may have not gotten the fuel set right. The race once again started and Troy and Brian battled to the finish with Jeff in a comfortable lead. Special thanks to Tommy Reitz for building us an awesome motor. I don't think this will be Jeff's last win of the season. The next race is in Madera on the 9th of May. Meridian is having a two day show for us May 23rd, & 24th. This should be a great weekend of racing. We hope to see you there. The 2009 schedule is now up. O/F Racings Best Year!
If there is one word to descibe O/F racings team this year, it would be "Determined." The first race of the season ended with a gradifying second place. Over the winter, we made many changes to the car, and the car worked Great. The second race was the Vukovich. Last year we lost the Vuky after being spun, in the last 2 laps after leading the entire race battling Troy for 42 laps. Some say that was the best race they had ever seen. It was a heartbreaker, but O/F racing came back this year to take our second Vukovich trophy. On a side note... Jeff was racing a wingless sprint series between SMRA races, and won 4 of the events. Jeff's years of dedication and his winning spirit was really showing this year. The third Madera race was a real tough one. Jeff was leading the race when the radius rod bracket broke turning Jeff into the wall doing considerable damage to the car. We fought shock issues for 3 races before we actually got the car back to where it was drivable. The wreck had broken all four shocks. We sent the shocks back to the factory three times before they got the shocks set right. We had our only DNF of the season on this race. The forth race was Twin Falls. This is a track that Jeff has always been fast. The qualifing was so close between Jeff, Troy and Brian, it was almost unbelievable. Jeff went out and won his second Supermodified race of the season. Next was Salt Lake. Jeff took a second place due to a miss that we later discovered was a bad coil. The fifth race was the Pombo in Madera. This was to be Jeff's 3rd win of the season. Jeff dominated the day. The next race was at Madera as well. Jeff got spun and sent to back while he was on the move. He finished 4th in this race. The last Madera race ended with a second place finish. We had the same hop we had been battling since the wreck. Somehow we just couldn't get back to the setup we had earlier in the year. We didn't get the Madera championship due to a very strange points structure. We did not know the Trophy dashes were a points race till the end of the season. Normally trophy dashes are for spectators, not for points. Jeff opted not to race a few of the trophy dashes. The last Madera race was the last scheduled race of the season. Then late in the year, a Vegas race was scheduled, giving Troy one last shot at the points championship. Jeff was leading the points race by 38 points going into Vegas. Vegas was a real nightmare. We had a miss on top, and could not figure out why. Jeff Qualified 9th quick. He ran a good race, but the motor just wouldn't run. Jeff still managed to keep Brian Warf and Troy Regier close, even though he was running on 7 cylinders as we found out later. Jeff finished 3rd. Jeff lost the championship based on a change of wording. The entire season the points structure was based on passing points. Then at the end of the Vegas race, they called it finishing points. Jeff started third and finished third, awarding him no points for the two different cars he started behind. Troy won the championship by 5 points. Moving on..... Wayne and Mike left Vegas the following Monday for Concord. They arrived in Concord Friday afternoon, unloaded the car and started to maintenance the car. Wayne found a broken valve spring while setting the valves. This explained the miss. Jeff had run the Vegas race on 7 cylinders. Once we fixed the valve spring, the car was fast...really fast. Every time we would go out for pactice, they would come down and measure somthing, axle width, wing square inches, ect. We could obviously see they were worried. Then they came down and said we had to run the tires they run. They run a 50 compound and we run a 2048 compound. The difference is practically non-existant. We setup the car in the shop to the rubber that was on it. Now they wanted us to change the rear tires just before the heat race. We understood it was a Shootout. They run there rules, we run ours. With the tire change we agreed to, our setup was not the same. The car was loose, loose, loose for the heat race. Jeff started the main event 2nd row inside. It was obvious early on that the motor wasn't pulling again. About half way through the race, the car started puttin steam out the exhaust. We suspected a cracked head or head gasket. We were done. We inspected the car when we got back and found a rocker tower had broken. All and all...it was a great experience to be able to race with the east coast boys. We just wish the race had gone better. This was a tough year, but we still feel really good to have led the championship for the entire season. Jeff is still contemplating his intentions for next season. There are allot of things that need to be considered for next year. All of us at O/F Racing want to thank our Sponsor and our Fans for all your support throughout the years. It's been a Great ride. |

Jeff takes 2nd place @ Madera on Sept 19th
September 19th race at Madera was not what we were looking for as an outcome. We found that Jeff had a pretty bad hop coming out of turn 2 in the first practice. Wayne changed a few things, and it appeared better. Jeff qualified 4th quick. We have been close to fast times all year, but somehow we managed to fall to fourth. Jeff dominated the Trophy dash, taking the checker ahead of Birges and Troy. Then the Heat race. Jeff started on the inside 3rd row. The green was thrown and Jeff found himself being freight trained by the out side lane. By the time Jeff got to move up, Troy and the others had already a sizable lead. The heat finished Warf, Troy, Dalton, and Jeff. The main Event was a Good race. Jeff started forth row outside. He made his way through traffic on the heels of Bobby Dalton. Bobby was running really well till he used his tires up. Jeff took the lead for a good part of the race. Jeff yanked Troy down the staightaways, but Troy managed to get by. It looked like Jeff was going to run away. Jeff said the car wasn't getting off the corner the way it use to. Jeff took a very respectable 2nd place. We still haven't gotten back to where we were before the crash of 3rd Madera race. We are still leading the points race, and are looking for a win and a championship in Vegas November 1st. Hope to see you in Vegas! |

Jeff takes a 4th place finish, but maintains his points lead
Well, we had another difficult weekend. Jeff had sent the shocks back to Indiana to be rebuilt after finding that they had been all set wrong from after the wreck when the radius rod mount broke. We thought they had set them to our normal settings, but after our first practice, we realized they hadn't got them right, if anything, they made it worse. Jeff drove what he had. He still did pretty well after being spun and going to the back of the pack. Jeff was really on the move from the start. It looked as though he still might make it to the front, but contact was made between Whittey Jensen, and Jeff, sending Jeff across the infield. Totally reminisent of last race when Brian Warf broke a motor and spun. We have sent the shocks back yet again, hoping that the shocks will be set to the original settings that worked so well for us. We will see September 20th. Hope to see you there. Congrats to Brian Warf and team on there first win of the season! Good job guys!!

Jeff Wins in Twin Falls and Places 2nd in Salt Lake
Jeff and his personal trophy girl
Glen and Birges
Mike Jensen
Pam Russell
Biggie, Troy and Kenny O/F Racing had another good weekend. Twin Falls had 3 qualifiers with times so close it was unbelievable. Brian Warf with a fast time of 12.24 Jeff with a 12.25 and Troy with a 12.26. Jeff was really wanting the track record, and believes he would have gotten it too, but the car was missing again on the top end. We found the problem in Salt Lake. We replaced the plugs, and found a wire that hadn't completly snapped on the plug. Jeff won his heat race. The main event had a casualty before the main even got started. The tow truck driver was pushing Lonnie Adamson off and ran completly over the car. Lonnie said the car was loading up like they do when you don't push them off fast enough. He was driving the Belfior number 8 car. It was a really ruff weekend for the number 8 team. They drove up from Las Vegas to help support the SMRA and this was the thanks they received. Lonnie was running good too. Special thanks goes out to Belfior for his support! Jeff started the main event in the back on the outside. He made a good move early on and within just a few laps was closing in on the lead car. Birges was running pretty good. Troy got by Jeff and spun Birges sending both Troy and Birges to the back. Seemed pretty fitting to win one this way after the loss in Madera last year do to a spin on Jeff in the last two laps of the race. Salt Lake was a different story. The car had a really noticable miss and we thought it was a fuel issue. Wayne checked all the fuel settings, but nothing seemed to help. Jeff decided to replace the plugs and found the problem. The car was running good, but it appears we missed the setup. The car was sprung to tight. Jeff bounced all around the corners. He did great for having an ill handling car. He said his ribs were really sore after the race. He took a 2nd place. After fighting the setup and the motor all day, we felt we did pretty good. Troy said he had the best car he's ever had. Troy is always going to be tough at Salt Lake, but Jeff is learning the track, and made huge leaps on mastering the oval. Our next race is July 19th in Madera. |
